Renowned Buddhist meditation teacher and author Larry Rosenberg, Matthew Daniell's longtime mentor, friend, and teaching partner, wrote these words: "Where is peace to be found? In the same place as sorrow. How convenient!"

Here is the essence of the challenge that Larry poses to us: How is one to live? In this series, we will read parts of Larry's new book The World Exists to Set us Free: Straight-Up Dharma for Living a Life of Awareness (Shambhala, 2025), to explore in very clear and practical ways the possibility of finding greater connection, resilience, freedom, and ease amid the challenges we face in formal practice and daily life. These are collected teachings covering Larry's more than 40 years in the dharma, with specific themes that can be studied independently or as a whole.

This is the first of two seven-week series exploring the teachings in this book.  Chapters we will cover in this first series include: The Art of Meditation, Dharma in Daily Life, Uses of the Breath, A Few Words about Silence, and Self-Knowing. The second series will run from April 22 through June 3, and explore themes in the second half of the book.

In each class session, guided and silent meditation will be complemented by reflection and a discussion period.
